Six hobbies, six mentors, and the gear you'll need for each one

Every hobby in Heartopia is gated behind a specific NPC, and building a little friendship with them before diving in tends to pay off — many unlock better gear or recipes once you're on good terms. None of the hobbies are required, but fishing and cooking in particular feed directly into your Coin income.

🎯 Hobbies require unlocking through the corresponding NPC mentor. We recommend raising their friendship first. Tools have durability — keep Repair Kits handy!

🎣 Fishing

  1. Find Vanya at the River Pier to unlock fishing and receive your first fishing rod
  2. River and ocean fish are different species — mind your fishing spot
  3. Use a Repair Kit when durability drops — don't remake from scratch
  4. Find Bill to unlock sea fishing events — participating with other players earns bonus rewards
  5. Caught fish can be gifted to Vanya to raise friendship, or sold to Albert Jr. for Coins

🌱 Gardening

  1. Find Blanc at the Gardening Shop to unlock, receiving starter seeds and a watering can
  2. Grow flowers and vegetables on your plot — flowers beautify your yard
  3. Some plants are cooking ingredients — Gardening and Cooking hobbies complement each other
  4. When talking to Blanc, notice the bird on his head — it also counts toward Birdwatching progress
  5. Raise Blanc's friendship to unlock more advanced seeds in his shop

👨‍🍳 Cooking

  1. Find Massimo to unlock Cooking. Buy basic ingredients from Ka Ching's General Store
  2. Place multiple stoves to cook simultaneously — efficiency doubles
  3. Recipes unlock gradually as you raise Massimo's friendship — prioritize gifting him
  4. On rainy days, find Doris to purchase special recipes (e.g. Plain Roll Cake) — costs Wishing Stars
  5. Cooked dishes can be gifted to Massimo for friendship, or sold to Albert Jr.

🦋 Bug Catching

  1. Find Naniwa in the forest area to unlock, receiving a starter bug net
  2. Different insects appear in different locations and time windows — timing matters
  3. Rare insect specimens give the highest friendship bonus when gifted to Naniwa
  4. Completing the full collection earns bonus rewards

📷 Birdwatching

  1. Find Bailey J at the park or nature area to unlock, receiving a telescope
  2. Different birds appear in specific locations and time windows — patience is key
  3. High-quality bird photos make great gifts for Bailey J
  4. Chatting with Blanc (who has a bird on his head) also builds Birdwatching XP

🎵 Music

  1. Find a piano or other instrument at home or in public areas to start playing
  2. Community players share sheet music you can learn and play
  3. Compose freely and share your creations with other players
